Whats the plan?

To help Amco Events create a new website, an experimental plan was set in motion. Alex was really curious and eager to understand the steps involved and the reasons behind them!

Experimental plan
  • Stakeholder interview

  • Competitive benchmark

  • User survey

  • Card sorting

  • Conclusion

  • Delivery to UI Designer, site map and wireframes

Stakeholder interview

We kicked off with an interview to understand Amco Events needs, goals, expectations, and any constraints before developing the new website.

Alex was full of excitement as he shared his future plans, like adding e-commerce, collaborating with decor companies, and setting big goals for Amco Events. He emphasized the need to make it easy for customers to contact him and showcase his past events, highlighting what sets Amco Events apart from competitors.

“Many of our competitors already have websites, some are better than others, but they all have inquiry forms. I need to catch up with my competitors and showcase our services.” - Alex

Competetive benchmark

Next, competitor websites were analyzed to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for Amco Event to stand out by filling content gaps.

Alex could quickly identify his top four competitors in the business. What do they do well, and where do they fall short? What can we learn from them? Let’s find out!

Insights

One competitor stood out for its simple and user-friendly design, while others felt cluttered with too much information.

Despite this, they all use online ads and drive traffic, keeping them ahead.

By analyzing competitors and speaking with stakeholders, we gained valuable insights to shape the next steps.

Survey time

When I asked people what they considered most important to include on Amco Events website, I gained valuable insights into how potential customers think and what to prioritize on the landing page.

survey time.jpg

Here’s what I learned matters most to Amco Events potential customers

  • How they find the service: Internet searches and search engines are the most common methods, but word of mouth remains powerful.

  • Clarity on services offered. Being clear about what Amco Event provides is essential.

  • Inspiring pictures. These are highly appreciated and effective for attracting customers.

  • Showcase previous jobs. Highlighting past work shows what’s possible and shows your photos/videosEasy contact options.

  • Making it simple to get in touch or request a quote is crucial.

When I asked the same question in an open-ended way, four priorities emerged at the top

  • Inspiring pictures

  • What Amco Event offers

  • Examples of previous work

  • Pricing information.

Card sorting

Card sorting helped prioritize and organize information, ensuring the most important content was highlighted on the landing page.

With this huge pile of post-its, it was time to sort them into groups! I started by identifying the key groups to focus on and worked from there.

Conclusion

Now it was time to show Alex what he needs to focus on when moving forward on his new site. Also it was time to provide a sitemap and a low fi wireframe to the UI designer to take over and start designing the site!

Clearly state what Amco Events offers, ideally in the hero section. Include the services and your locations in the site easy to find.

Display only high-resolution, inspiring pictures throughout the site. Use your own photos and videos to showcase your work.

Previous jobs, showcase what is possible. 3-5 cases.

Use SEO and Google Ads to attract new customers. Add newsletters or a blog to boost rankings and stay connected.

Make it easy to get in touch, preferably with a contact form for quotes or questions. Include fields like the event date to minimize back and forth emails.

When possible show prices/packages.

To build trust, showcase reviews from big clients, especially since you're well-known within the industry but less so to the general public.
